Life as a House Director

Julia Shicatano

House Director for the Gamma Nu Chapter at Rutgers University - New Brunswick

"I am so happy to be able to be the house director as I go through my graduate program and am so thankful Phi Sigma Sigma has welcomed me and provided me with this opportunity."

Being house director of the Gamma Nu chapter house, along with Becca Befumo, has been a pleasant experience so far. We have been able to keep the house running smoothly and the residents happy. Our staff who help us keep the house in order have been the most helpful and caring people to be around and work with. Becca and I hold meetings with the girls and are in constant contact with them being updated on house occurrences, needs, and just staying in the know about the girls experiences in house and in Phi Sig in general. The girls feel comfortable coming to us when they need us and we are always there to help. I am so happy to be able to be the house director as I go through my graduate program and am so thankful Phi Sigma Sigma has welcomed me and provided me with this opportunity.

Michal O'Brien, Iota Tau Chapter at Miami University of Ohio

House Director for the Iota Upsilon Chapter at the University of New Hampshire

"I would highly suggest it to anyone considering pursuing a graduate degree or a seasonal internship."

I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience as house director of the Iota Upsilon Chapter at the University of New Hampshire. The responsibilities are incredibly manageable with a variety of other commitments as well. I like having the ability to have time for other activities and would highly suggest it to anyone considering pursuing a graduate degree or a seasonal internship. The position especially stuck out to me, as it gave me an opportunity to travel to a part of the country that I have never been to and it allowed me to pursue activities I love such as hiking, skiing and sight-seeing.

It’s a really fun experience and would recommend it to anyone who is considering applying for it!

Being a House Director for Phi Sigma Sigma NHC has been an incredible experience! I’ve had the opportunity to meet and speak with women from NHC that I would’ve never had the chance to if I wasn’t a house director. It’s also given me the chance to get to know some of the women in my chapter that I didn’t know as well when I was an undergrad. It’s a really fun experience and would recommend it to anyone who is considering applying for it!
